Weighted Walking for Bulging Discs

If you have bulging discs that are causing lower back pain this simple method has the potential to help you out tremendously.

First off make sure your symptoms are consistent with a disc problem. Disc issues are often times made worse with sitting for prolonged periods and bending forward. If you have a hard time straightening out and are hunched over after you stand from sitting a disc is likely to blame. If you’ve had an MRI that shows bulging discs then you already know a disc is part of your problem.

Grab a backpack and put 20 pounds in it. Now go for a walk. It’s that simple.

The weighted backpack pulls your lumbar spine into extension, decreasing the tension through the paraspinal musculature. The weight of the pack puts less force through your lower back than the tight paraspinal muscles.

Less force through your bulging discs means less pain.

It’s best to walk outside over uneven terrain. This helps load and unload the tissues in your lower back as you walk and facilitates the healing process.
