If you have lower back pain when sitting start using these three methods today.
- Shift your weight and change position frequently. The best sitting poster is one that changes frequently. Lean back, lean forward, lean to each side. Make subtle position changes often when you’re seated.
- Stand up every twenty minutes. These are called micro-breaks. Even if you only stand for thirty seconds your lower back will benefit. After sitting for twenty minutes the tissues in your lower back start to slowly stretch and loosen up. This puts more force through your lumbar spine. Standing every twenty minutes prevents this from happening.
- Make sure your seat does not push your knees up towards your chest. The angle between your thigh and torso should not be more than 90 degrees. It’s best if its less than 90 degrees. When the angle is more than 90 degrees there is more compressive force through your lumbar spine. When the angle is less than 90 degrees your lower back has more of a natural curve and has less force through the tissues.
